THE STAFF

There are four members of staff within the IBRCE.  We are dedicated to the center and work together to help the park reach its full potential, not just for migratory birds but also as an educational, tourist and research station. There is no such sentence as "it is not my job".  All of us "muck in" where needed and very often have a lot of fun while doing so.

The four members comprise of:

Dr Reuven Yosef

Dr. Reuven Yosef was born in Pune, India in 1957 and immigrated to Israel in 1974.

Reuven obtained a Ph.D. (Doctorate) in 1992 at The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, U.S.A.  His Ph.D was in Conservation Biology, Wildlife Management, Zoology and Behavioral Ecology.

While in the States he carried out extensive research on Shrikes and has become known throughout the Birding World as "The Shrike Man".  Between1992-1994 Reuven was a Scientific advisor in the NASA Space Shuttle Program at the Kennedy Space Center, Cape Canaveral, Florida,  USA.

He took over as the Director of the International Birding and Research Center in 1993 and his dedication to his work within Israel and internationally has been recognized by the following awards:

2003 Special Distinction. Ford Motor Company Conservation & Environment Award.

2000 Associate Laureate. Rolex Awards for Enterprise - Environment.

2000 Runner-up. Conde Nast Traveler Environmental Award.

1998 Environment Man-of-the-Year. Swarovski Optics.

1995 Distinguished Eco-tourist Operator. Ministry of Tourism, Eilat, Israel.

His work is by no means limited to Eilat.  He has been involved in such projects as The Global Shrike Monitoring Program in the States; the Scientific Committee for the Ecology & conservation of steppe-land birds, Catalonia, Spain;   Scientific Committee, 1st International Eurasian Ornithology Congress, Antalya, Turkey;  Organizing Committee, 4th International Shrike Symposium, European Ornithologist’s Union, Chemnitz, Germany;  Imperial Eagle Working Group, Birdlife International, Hungary and was vice president of the South East European Migration Network (SEEN).

This is to name but a few!

While in Israel he lectures at the Department of Life Sciences, Ben Gurion University of the Negev and at the Arava Institute.  However, in the past two years he has been invited to give lectures throughout America and Canada, also in Italy, Greece, Turkey, Holland and India. He was part of a team in Mongolia this summer working against the accidental electrocution of Birds of Prey and will be going to India for more conservation work this December.

He is easily recognizable in the Bird Sanctuary, which he has been dedicated to for the past 15 years, by his hat.  He always wears it!

Jill Oron: SECRETARY.  Jill has been with the center since 1999.  Jill started work with the IBRCE after having a five year break from the workforce to have her two children. Having no ornithological background she is still proud when she can name a bird!

Tzadok Tsemach: MAINTENANCE MANAGER. Tzadok started work with us as a volunteer and became a full member of staff in 2003.  Tzadok works incredibly hard within the center and keeps us all amused at the same time.  Tzadok spent 25 years in the army and after retiring joined us. There is no job too big for Tzadok.  Volunteers will always remember his jokes.

Noam Weiss: EDUCATION AND TOURISM. Noam is the latest to join the IBRCE team.  Noam has joined the project to help build the education and tourism programs.

He has made a great start, already teaching in schools in and around Eilat and raising the economy of the center by guiding and lecturing. You can read more about Noam in the Autumn 2006 newsletter.
