Yacutensis ssp. Wilow Warbler

The rare Yacutensis eastern subspecies of the Willow Warbler (Phyloscopus trochilus) was caught and ringed at the ringing station on the 2/10/2007. These warblers are usually found in eastern Siberia but are seen in Eilat almost every autumn in very small numbers.

The Yacutensis ssp. is told from the two other subspecies seen regularly (Trochilus and Acredula) by the grayish tones to its upper parts, white belly and under tail coverts, and the buffish wash to the breast. Green tones are restricted to the wing, tail and rump. In addition to this the supersilium is more prominent and the primary projection longer. The head shape is longer and narrower. The size of the bird is bigger too (our birds wing = 73).

Enjoy the pictures.
