A First Ringing Course During a weekend in May the IBRCE undertook a first for the team, thanks to the initiative of Noam Weiss – that of teaching a bird ringing (or banding) course for beginners. In picture on right: Oryan Rabin and Mayan Beit HaLakhmi from Eilat practice removing a bird from a mist net and are instructed by Yokhai Wasserman (with cap) and Dr. Boris Nikolov. There were sixteen participants from all over Israel. The academic part of the course was held in the classroom of the Eilat Field Study Center and all fieldwork was carried out in the Bird Sanctuary. This course trained both young and old, from the north and the south to become young nature protectors through research and an understanding of the birds they have decided to work with. Hopefully, they will continue to learn and will become responsible and caring ringers in the near future. The next course will be held in the autumn and you are invited to participate in the process of becoming a bird handler. Please contact us for more information. |
